Garmin backup camera forum12/19/2023 Im looking for cheap and cheerful unless it has different powering options that would allow it to be tidily wired in and more permanently fitted later. I am going to have to order online and fit myself so the simpler the better for now. Ive tried looking online but keep running into ones that require removing the radio or attaching to the vans electric and nipping into have a chat with someone who knows about these things is obviously not an option. (Be sure to check your preferences for the guidance lines in your device settings before use. I dont want to mess with the wiring if avoidable so is there a simple plug and play system eg 1 wire from the monitor to a cigarette lighter/usb and another from the camera, feed the camera through the door seal, temp fix with a removeable sticky pad or suction cup, tape trailing wire up out of the way, bobs your uncle quick and dirty fix achieved. Most backup cameras utilize stoplight-colored lines on the display. preferably without impaling anything with the tow hook and losing my no claims. I am a shift working keyworker so have to move regularly at all hours and use on road parking. The problem is it is bigger than I am used to parking, I have discovered among other issues the parking sensors are wrecked and due to the lockdown there are badly parked vehicles everywhere that are not being moved. Here is a link to a GPS/camera compatability document from Garmin. I got help selecting the correct parts from Tim at RV Cams (link here). I mounted the GPS on a RAM Mounts arm attached to the face of the dash. I then routed the existing camera video signal to a Garmin RV760 GPS. I had intended to fit a snazzy new double din and rear parking camera but obviously not if its going back. I removed the in-dash backup camera display. The camera works off 2x AA batteries perfered to be lithium. I wonder about the vent staying in place when offroad or if the GPS bounces its way down to pointing at the shifter quite quickly.Hi all I bought a 57 plate SWB VW T5 with a tailgate which will be going back to the garage I got it from but the lockdown hit the day before this was arranged and they have now shut down for the duration. I saw that Garmin has this small Back Up Camera which is compatable with the Garmin Navigator enabled with Wifi technology. If you don't use the climate control much or can stand to block a vent, they have a vent mount for GPS receivers that seems mostly out of the way. The price was right at less than $200 for the camera and the lifetime maps/traffic GPS (by Garmin). I did hook it into the reverse lights so it pops the GPS over to the rear view 1-2 seconds after putting the Suburban into reverse, so it was a pretty easy install (tapped the trailer hitch wiring for reverse) and with it being wireless up to the GPS, there wasn't much more to it. My biggest issue is I don't always grab the GPS receiver as I walk out the door, so the camera's useless. I got a GPS based setup for my Suburban and it works ok. People seem to like the MyGig Lockpick and there's one other device to help pipe the incoming video into the head unit if it has a usable screen. You could see the bottom of the spare in the camera shot, but to me it was a pretty clean looking install and I like the idea of protecting the spare from the elements with a tire cover, so I'm likely to go a similar route once I know we have the 2016 JKU that we're keeping. The dealer drilled a hole in the bumper for it to point through rather than using a spare tire area mount. They had the 430 I believe, so the video came up on that. If your display is embedded in the dashboard, start at the camera and work to the display. Again, checking your fuses to ensure everything is connected (and not blown) and going and tracing the wiring and cables from the camera to the display will reveal the problem to you. I read a thread somewhere (maybe another forum) where the poster paid their dealer to install the camera from a Cherokee in their Wrangler. Take the worry out of backing up with a Garmin wireless backup camera. If you have a wired backup camera, wiring is more likely the problem.
